Foreverywherewelook,thereisworktobedohestateofourenoycallsfora,boldandswift,andwewillaotonlytocreatenewjobs,buttoyanewfoundationfroillbuildtheroadsandbridges,theelectricgridsanddigitallesthatfeedourrdbdtogether.Wewillrestorescetoitsrightfulpce,andwieldteology’swooraisehealthcare’squalityandloweritsst.Wewillharhesunandthedsandthesoiltofuelourcarsandrunourfactories.Andwewilltransforourschoolsandllegesanduiestoetthedeandsofanewage.Allthiswedo.Allthiswewilldo.

Now,therearesowhoquestionthescaleofourabitions—whosuggestthatoursysteottoleratetooanybigpns.Theiroriesareshort.Fortheyhavefottenwhatthisuntryhasalreadydone;whatfreenandwonachievewheniagationisjoedtoonpurpose,andyte.

Whattheicsfailtouandisthatthegroundhasshiftedbehthe—thatthestalepoliticalarguntsthathavensudforsolongnolongerapply.Thequestionweasktodayisnotwhetherovernntistoobigortoosall,butwhetheritworks—whetherithelpsfailiesfdjobsatadetwage,caretheyafford,aretirentthatisdignified.Wheretheanswerisyes,wetendtooveforward.Wheretheanswerisnraswillend.Andthoseofublic’sdolrswillbeheldtoaount—tospendwisely,reforbadhabitsanddoourbessthelightofday—becaeonlythenwerestorethevitaltrtbeeenapeopleandtheirgovernnt.

Noristhequestionbeforewhetherthearketisaforrisishasrededthatwithoutawatchfuleye,thearketspoutofntrol—thenationotprosperlongwhenitfavorsonlytheprospero.ThesuessofourenoyhasalwaysdependednotjtonthesizeofrossDosticProduct,butonthereachofourprosperity;ontheabilitytoextendopportunitytoeverywillgheart—notoutofcharity,butbecaeitisthesurestroutetoourongood.

Asforourondefense,werejectasfalsethechoicebeeenoursafetyandourideals.OurFoundgFathers,facedwithperilsthatwescarcelyiage,draftedachartertoassuretheruleofwandtherightsofan,ae’ssake.Andsotoalltheotherpeoplesandgovernntswhoarewatchgtoday,frothegracapitalstothesallvilgewhereyfatherwasborn:knowthatAricaisafriendofeaationandeveryan,woan,andchildwhoseeksafutureofpeaddignity,andwearereadytoleadonceore.

Recallthatearliergeionsfaceddownfascisandunisnotjtwithissilesandtanks,butwiththesturdyalliancesandendurgnvis.Theyuoodthatourpoweraloprotect,nordoesitentitletodoasweplease.Instead,theykhatourprowsthroughitsprudente;oursecurityeanatesfrothejtnessofourcae,theforceofourexaple,thetepergqualitiesofhuilityarat.

Wearethekeepersofthislegacy.Guidedbytheseprciplesonceore,weetthosehreatsthatdeandeveereffort—eveeroperationanduandgbeeennations.WewillbegtoresponsiblyleaveIraqtoitspeople,andfeahard-earnedpeaceAfghanistan.Witholdfriendsandforrfoes,wewillworktirelesslytolessenthehreat,androllbackthespecterofa.

Forweknowthatourpatchworkheritageisastrength,notaweakness.WeareanationofChristiansandMlis,JewsandHd—andnon-believers.Weareshapedbyeverynguageandculture,drawnfroeveryendofthisEarth;andbecaewehavetastedthebitterswillofcivilwarandsegregation,andergedfrothatdarkchapterstrongerandoreunited,weothelpbutbelievethattheoldhatredsshallsodaypass;thatthelesoftribeshallsoondissolve;thatasthewrowssaller,ouronhuanityshallrevealitself;andthatAricatpyitsroleherganeweraofpeace.

TotheMliworld,weseekanewwayforward,basedonutualterestandutualrespect.Tothoseleadersaroundtheglobewhoseektosownflict,orbtheirsociety’sillsontheWest—knowthatyourpeoplewilljudgeyouonwhatyouhyourfist.

Tothepeopleofpoornations,wepledgetoworkalongsideyoutoakeyourfarsflourishawatersflow;tonourishstarvedbodiesandfeedhungryds.Andtothosenationslikeoursthatenjoyretiveplenty,wesayweolongerafforddiffereothesuffergoutsideourborders;norwensutheworld’sresourceswithardtoeffect.Fortheworldhasged,agewithit.

Asweheroadthatunfoldsbefore,wereberwithhublegratitudethosebraveAriswho,atthisveryhour,patrolfar-offdesertsanddistantountas.Theyhavesothgtotell,jtasthefallenheroeswholieArlgtonwhisperthroughtheages.Wehonorthenotonlybecaetheyaretheguardiansofourliberty,butbecaetheyebodythespiritofservice;awillgofdangsothggreaterthantheselves.A,atthisont—aontthatwilldefeageion—itispreciselythisspiritthatthabitall.

Forasuchasgovernntdoandtdo,itisultiatelythefaithaerationoftheAripeopleuponwhichthisnationrelies.Itisthekdotakeastrangerwhentheleveesbreak,theselflessnessofworkerswhowouldrathercuttheirhoursthanseeafriendlosetheirjobwhichseesthroughourdarkesthours.Itisthefirefighter’suragetostorastairwayfilledwithsoke,butalsoaparent’swillgonurtureachild,thatfallydecidesourfate.

Ourchallengesaybehestruntswithwhichweettheaybenew.Butthosevaesuponwhichoursuessdepends—hoyandhardwork,urageandfairpy,tolerandcuriosity,loyaltyandpatriotis—thesethgsareold.Thesethgsaretrue.Theyhavebeenthequietforceressthroughoutourhistory.Whatisdeahenisareturntothesetruths.Whatisrequiredofnowisaneweraofresponsibility—aregnition,onthepartofeveryAri,thatwehavedutiestoourselves,ournation,andtheworld,dutiesthatwedonlyaeptbutratherseizegdly,firtheknowledgethatthereisnothgsosatisfygtothespirit,sodefgofourcharacter,thangivgouralltoadifficulttask.

Thisisthepridtheproiseofcitizenship.

ThisisthesourceofournfideheknowledgethatGodcallsontoshapeanuadesty.

Thisistheangofourlibertyandouralrestaurantowstandbeforeyoutotakeaostsacredoath.

Soletarkthisdaywithrebrance,ofwhoweareandhowfarwehavetraveled.IntheyearofArica’sbirth,theldestofonths,asallbandofpatriotshuddledbydygcapfiresontheshoresofanicyriver.Thecapitalwasabaheeneywasadvancg.Thesnowwasstaedwithblood.Ataontwheeofourrevotionwasostdoubt,thefatherofournationorderedthesewordsbereadtothepeople:
